Growing vegetables is a rewarding step to self reliance and self sufficiency. Come with us for a day to discover the pleasure of growing chemical free vegetables in our remarkable cool climate region of  NSW. Taste what we grow over a light lunch and dream of what you can grow to sustain your family and community.

In cool/cold climate NSW you can make your tree change a success by growing some or most or your own food or growing food commercially. This will help you make that happen.

What to expect, what to bring.

9:20am arrival for a 9.30am start. Cake and a hot drink is provided on arrival and a light lunch is served around 12.30pm Feel free to bring notepads and pens for note taking. Please dress for the weather as there will be some "hands on" learning activities as part of the workshop.Don't forget light weight gardening gloves and shoes suitable for outside work.

What it's all about?

Australia's cold and cooler climate zones, such as the Southern Highlands of NSW, can make growing vegetables all year around a real challenge. In this workshop you'll learn the strategies and tactics that make for successful vegetable production in areas where overnight winter temperatures are often below zero, with regular frosts. The workshop covers:

• understanding your climate zone, particularly a cool climate zone
• growing in all seasons
• bed preparation
• when and what to plant
• frost protection
• organic pest control
• weeding and weeding tools
• composting and building soils

We very briefly explore the various organic approaches: permaculture, bio-dynamic, biological, and gain a basic understanding of these different philosophies. The course aims to provide you with the practical knowledge and skills to produce food all year, from a small backyard plot or a large market garden.

If Wynlen House has to cancel the event for any reason a full refund of the course fees paid will be made. If you are unable to attend the workshop for any reason Wynlen House will refund the fee, minus a $10 handling charge, if notified a minimum of 24 hours before the event. No refund will be paid if notification is received less than 24 hours before the event.
